How did Weirs Beach get it's name? 

The natives, a long, long, time ago built a basket, called a weir, to capture the abundant fish, called shad, that migrated through the Weirs Channel on their way from Lake Winnipesaukee to the Merrimack river and eventually out to the sea.
The constant use of weirs in the Weirs Channel led
to the nickname, Weirs Beach.
